It’s been a while since I posted or sent out a newsletter. But there is good news to share. Fortunes of War is now getting feedback. After that, some edits, then off to a professional editor. Finally, all that will remain is to query it, seeking an agent.
But that is still some time away, so let me bring you up to speed on more immediate plans.
My prequel story, “Sand Speaks,” is now going to be a novelette! So, for the critique partners who wanted it to be a novel, my answer is…sort of? Some last tweaks, then it starts on the magazine rounds in July.
For three months after finishing the novel, there was no writing. Apparently, my brain had to rewire itself. This latest short story, another prequel, was very organic. It’s tentatively titled “Wake The Dead.” The goal is to send this out by July or August, after edits.
I also have a cozy fantasy story, called “Cooking With Fire,” for a specific market when they open in August. There are a few other short stories on the back burner for the fall, and I’ll be sharing more about them as they take shape and get out in the world. I’m still writing, and it feels like a victory. Making art seems even more important and vital now, more than ever.
