Edmund Kean, a Shakespearean actor, is alleged to have said “Dying is easy, comedy is hard.” For me, comedy is easy, literary is hard. I love coming up with one liners for my characters to deliver, or placing them in some very funny situations. After all, let’s face it, as a protagonist, a Fury with anger management issues is hilarious.
In less than two weeks, the MFA begins. Growth can be scary sometimes. Yet, getting out of the comfort zone allows new ideas to flow. At the end of the day, creativity does not exist in a vacuum. So, time to go back to school.
Comedy is easy, literary is hard. Maybe in a year I’ll be able to say both are easy? Or at least easier?
